Winter is not the most popular time of year for weddings, but sometimes I wonder why. Lorna and Dan’s wedding at Vue on 50 proves that it is a delightful season for celebration! Winter is truly a festive and magical time of year. There is a special kind of elegance and romance that Lorna and Dan’s winter wedding in Philadelphia embodies capturing all the glitter and beauty of the season!
Philadelphia City Hall gets all decked out for the holidays. They even had a Ferris wheel on the plaza – how fun! I love the beautifully decorated Christmas tree and all the hustle and bustle and excitement in the air.
Lorna shares their cross-continental love story!
“We began a conversation online and we wrote each other long emails for about 6 weeks before we had our first in-person date. We met in Dublin, Ireland, when Dan moved over for work initially for only one year. We met for our first date on a little bridge over a canal in Dublin city center and about 18 months later Dan proposed there. Three years later Dan is still in Dublin.”
They had their reception at a Vue on 50, a stunning Philadelphia wedding venue right in the heart of the city with amazing views and center city style. Lorna shares a bit about how they picked their venue:
“We had already been officially married about 6 months when we went to look at the venue. We had eloped to Florida and had a very small ceremony with family. Because Dan is American and I am Irish and we both have large families in both places so we decided to have 2 “smaller” parties in both countries to celebrate our wedding. It took us nearly a year to actually have the party. We really like that the venue was new and something a bit different. We are both “city” people and loved how it was in center city and it has spectacular views both during the day and at night. The staff were also so welcoming and accommodating and the overall venue fit the vibe of a smaller wedding party that we were looking for.
Having some personal touches at your reception is always a plus. It doesn’t hurt to have a creative and kind family who is happy to help!
“Kristina (Dan’s sister) and Jane (Dan’s mother) are the queens of DIY. They made us our own personalized gift box, flip flop boxes for the dance floor, table numbers and centerpieces for the table. Without them, those beautiful touches would not have existed. They are both so creative and talented and everything they did made the day so much more beautiful!”
Lorna and Dan had an extra special surprise when they were announced into the reception. It was also a gender reveal for their little one on the way. It’s a girl!
“Stay chill and plan a day that means something to you both as a couple. Whether you want a small intimate ceremony/party or a full-scale huge party – stick to what makes you and your groom comfortable. The day is meant to represent you as a couple. Mostly, just enjoy it and have fun and find some comfy but pretty shoes.”
