Ridley Creek Park Engagement Session

Ridley Creek Photo Session

This Ridley Creek Park engagement session was so much fun! I love that this couple chose a scenic PA state park for their photos. Being in nature in the summer always feels so good and the brilliant greens of the leafy trees and with the pop of her yellow dress made for some great photos. Each season offers its own beauty and in the summer I love the rich color nature provides.

Ridley Creek State Park is under 20 miles from Philadelphia and is a popular destination for visitors to go on nature walks, fish, picnic, soak up the calm and peace of the woods, and of course have engagement photos taken. There is actually also a beautiful wedding venue there called Parque, and I have to say it’s pretty dreamy! If elegant romance is what you are going for on your wedding day, I would add this to your list of places to visit. The historic mansion and the fantastic nature-soaked grounds are a winning combination for a wedding day.

Ridley Creek Photo Permit

If you are planning on doing a Ridley Creek Park engagement session, it is important to know that you are required to have a permit to take photos there. The photographer must to secure the permit, which is a $100.oo fee for the year. For all the details about permits, advance notice and questions about where you can and where you cannot take photos reach out to Ridley Creek State Park directly.

Ridley Creek Reflection Pool

Don’t you just love this reflecting pool? There is something so inviting about mixing the elements of the earth and water and being able to enjoy this sweet combination. This is a classic location for couples photos and I have even photographed a marriage proposal here.

If you like the idea of a nature-filled engagement session checking to see what state parks are close by can be a good start. There are some pretty cool green spaces in and around Philadelphia for lovely photos in the woods, by the river, or even at a city park.

The landscaped grounds of the park offer many different elements including stone walls, inviting pathways, impressive trees and historic structures. There is no shortage of places for photos and each time I go, I discover new spots that have wonderful backdrops for photos. Picking a location that has a variety of spaces can offer more options and result in a satisfying mix of photos. Ridley Creek State Park certainly offers that.

Hunting Hill Mansion

Hunting Hill Mansion is this impressive stone building you see peeking behind the couple in the above photo. It is the reception space for the wedding venue and seats up to 150 guests. It is just as pretty inside as it is outside. The flagstone patio is perfect for photos (and on a wedding day for cocktails!). This outside patio space has lovely forest views and lends itself to parties, walks, photos and simply being outside. I love when a space is created with the purpose of enjoying the outdoors and a patio like this really is so inviting.

Tree Grove In Ridley Park

This line of trees feels magical! I love how tall, close together and perfectly placed they are. These impressive trees make a fun location for taking a few photos, so of course we did just that!

PA State Parks for Engagement photos

If you are looking for other ideas for PA State Parks that are close to Philadelphia, here are a couple of others to look into.  Hickory Run State Park is under an hour from Philadelphia in the Poconos and it has some really unique elements including a boulder field! Fort Washington State Park is a 493-acre park in eastern Montgomery County and aside from a great place for photos, many come for hiking and camping as well. Tyler State Park is also an option for an engagement session and even has a scenic-covered bride. Check out this link to see photos I took from a Tyler State Park engagement session. No matter which state park you end up at, you are sure to get beautiful photos and have a good time enjoying nature.

Their Wedding Day

Keeping in line with their love for nature, his couple decided to have their wedding ceremony at Portico, the wedding venue at Awbury Arboretum in Philadelphia Pa. Both Parque (the venue in Ridley Creek State Park) and Portico (the venue at Awbury) are run by Peachtree Catering and they are fabulous! Having their Dog at the Engagement Session

They had a special guest appearance of their sweet pup for their Ridley Creek Park engagement session! How fun to include their furry friend in these photos. Their dog was only there for 5 minutes to do a few photos and then was scooped up and taken home by a friend while the couple finished their session together. This is the best way to do it in my opinion. You really only need a few with the pup and then having someone else bring them right back home can free you up to focus on each other for the rest of the engagement session.
