This was such a well-planned Philadelphia proposal and it was a complete surprise(which is not easy to do!). Jessica thought she was going to a weekend gala event with her friend and John was supposedly out of town so this was the last thing she expected when she walked into the Rodin Museum garden in Philadelphia. It was so fun and moving to witness this life-changing moment. The Rodin Museum Garden is a hidden gem. Many may not know that it is even there. Located right along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in the center city of Philadelphia it has a secret garden feel. The beautiful Parisian-style museum building displays many works by the renowned Auguste Rodin. It is actually the largest collection of his work outside of Paris – impressive! The museum has been a part of The Philadelphia landscape and art world since it opened in 1929 and this longtime institution has made its mark.
John came prepared to the proposal and had a big box of rose petals which he used to make a trail of flowers leading up to where he stood with the engagement ring. You really can’t go wrong with rose petals for a proposal. Simple yet symbolic, thoughtful and romantic, eye-catching and enchanting rose petals lead the way. When he got down on one knee and popped open the ring box to lovingly display the ring Jessica was bursting with excitement. It couldn’t have been better.
After the shock and surprise, between the tears of joy, smiles, and kisses, she said “Yes!” What a cool museum location for a surprise wedding proposal, just so classy and the grounds are perfect for photos. The ethereal charm really transports you and you forget you are in the middle of Philadelphia.
I love the looks this couple wore for this special moment. John looked sharp in his suit perfect for this occasion. Jessica’s had on a playful and stylish pink floral dress.
The museum grounds are thoughtfully landscaped and peppered with delightful blooming flowers. At just the right time of year in spring, you can see the magnificent Magnolia tree blossom. This fleeting time is a true delight to witness and lovely for proposal photos. We wondered the impressive grounds of the Rodin Museum taking photos of this newly engaged couple. They were all smiles and bubbling with excitement.
The Rodin Museum in Philadelphia has such a beautiful garden area just through the gates and before you enter the museum. It is landscaped with flowers and foliage and a lovely reflecting pool offering a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The architecture of the museum and the private elegant outside space make a romantic backdrop for a proposal moment. If you are inspired to do a photo or engagement session at the Rodin Museum, it’s important to note that they do require a photo permit so keep this in mind when planning. Conveniently, You can purchase a photo permit right online from their website and they are currently offering limited slots on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays. Permits are reasonably priced at $100.00. It’s important to know that the space is still open to the public as it is the entry to the museum itself so there will be people moving through the space. That said, in my experience, it has still been relatively quiet although not private. Always check the Rodin Museum website for the latest information and updates as things can change!
This summer in Philadelphia Pennsylvania has been very rainy! We have had a stretch of rainy days where storms rolled in with a mighty downpour, thunder, and lightning. When I arrived for the proposal I brought two big umbrellas with me just in case. Amazingly, the sun peeked out from behind the clouds as soon as Jessica entered the museum garden. It was like a scene straight out of a movie. We were able to get through most of our scheduled couples’ photos before the rain came down. I have to say it was pretty magical timing!
If you are an art-lover and a romantic The Rodin Museum Garden may be the Philadelphia location to pop the question “Will you Mary me?” The outside space exudes elegance and style and offers an unforgettable backdrop from a Philly area marriage proposal. Hidden in plain sight, you may not have thought about it as a possible location for this special occasion but I do believe it is worth considering. You can go by in person and check out the space on Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays, or Tuesdays between 10 am and 5 pm to see if it fits your vision.
As a Philadelphia proposal photographer, I have been all over the city to photograph these incredible moments where couples get engaged. From the rooftop of Cira Green to the banks of the Schuylkill River, from Rittenhouse Square Prak to The Philadelphia Museum of Art.
