PAFA is is a truly unique venue for a wedding reception. The Historic Landmark Building at PAFA is the oldest art museum & art academy in the country and makes an unexpected and intriguing backdrop for a wedding reception and day of photos. Located right in center city, just blocks from city hall, PAFA is convenient to hotels and attractions. When I asked the couple how they selected their venue, they shared, “We chose the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts because it has a sense of beauty and history that we both really appreciate. “
Le Meridien Hotel is very close to PAFA, which made it a great choice for getting ready.
The bride and groom decided to do their first look at PAFA in the Cast Hall which houses over 120 rare plaster casts and makes it an interesting and unique space for wedding day photos.
The Historic Landmark Building is a stunning building designed by Frank Furness and George W. Hewitt in 1876. The grandeur of the space features high ceilings, intricate designs and of course beautiful art. Taking the couple’s portraits here was dreamy and from the main staircase to the many galleries, there was no shortage of places for photos.
The wedding ceremony was at a local Philadelphia Church right in the city.
It was back to PAFA for cocktail hour and reception. The mixing and mingling and celebrating of the guests could be felt through the museum. What excitement and celebratory fun!
I loved how the couple decorated their reception space. Here is what they shared about preparing the details for their day:
“We’ve hunted around antique shops for colored glassware that has a connection to Philadelphia (like a bottle with Ben Franklin’s face on it). Some advice is to get other people involved! For example, Sean’s sister is creating the escort cards, even though she lives across the country.”
What a great idea to have friends and family help out too!
PAFA is located right on Broad Street in Philadelphia, so when you step outside you can get the classic “City Hall Photo” by standing in the median on Broad St. Doing this photo at night made it even more fun!
