Sam and Katelyn had an amazing rustic barn wedding at Memorytown USA. This Mt Pocono venue is truly a specail place. Surrounded by natures beauty, it offers a wonderful outside ceremony space and a lovely barn for reception. Sam and Katelyn’s day was full of love and wedding day magic! After a sweet ceremony nestled by the apple orchard, they danced the night away.
One of the things that makes a wedding day so special and emotional are all of the experience that have led to this day. Katelyn shares a little bit about some specail moments that brought these two to their wedding day!
How we met
I was staying on our college campus (Moravian) early because I was gonna be a student adviser that year. Sam had also came in early for cross country training. I had seen Sam around campus before and always thought he was cute! One morning, I went to breakfast with one of my friends and Sam joined us. We got to know each other that morning and made plans to run together. (Later in our relationship, I absolutely loved running together.) For those next couple of weeks we had breakfast together every day. We went to parties together and spend time together at our friend’s house. We started dating shortly after. We were inseparable in that first year.
How I knew he was “the one”
This one is hard to explain. I will say that I realized very early, something was special about him. I just knew this was it. Finally the phrase “When you know you know.” made sense to me! I think that stayed with me throughout the entire relationship. Now that we are ready to take the next step there is no question in my mind!
How he proposed
We treated ourselves to a vacation to Maui after our first year of surviving New York. We were supposed to go on a sunset cruise around the island. Our travel agent sent us the wrong itinerary and when we showed up we were horrified to find that we were scheduled for the day prior. I was REALLY UPSET. Sam handled it really well…he just said to me “Don’t worry we can still have a great night, If we leave now we can still make the sunset on top of the volcano.” (Haleakalā) We drove to the top of the volcano despite a hurricane warning and the eventual start of rain. I was so mad Maui hadn’t had a hurricane in years and of course with my luck this happens. When we got to the top of the mountain the rain had cleared. I think we actually had gotten over most of the rain clouds. We were greeted by the most beautiful sunset. As we watched the sun go down, Sam looked at me and said that I was the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. He then got on one knee and proposed. I remember him shakily putting the ring on my finger. I thought that the whole thing was wonderful. It was such a nice ending to a not so great day. I love how he was able to turn it around despite everything. That’s what I love about him.
A pivotal point in our relationship
The first year in New York was really tough. We both had horrible jobs, worked nights and were broke. That definitely tested our relationship. I think that it was hard on us both because we had spent so much time planning for our bright happy future after college and we were miserable. We had to really lean on each other a lot. I ended up helping to support Sam while he found a new job. It was so nice to see him happy again. He also supported me when it came time for me to move on. Later, we talked about how important it was to have someone there for those scary times.
