Longwood Gardens Surprise Proposal

Longwood Gardens Fountain

This Longwood Gardens surprise proposal was a touching summertime moment and a treat to photograph. The location selected to get down on one knee was perfect, with the Longwood Gardens fountain show in the background. It was an unforgettable moment and the surprise element, which isn’t always easy to do, was beautifully done! You can see the shock and joy on her face as the ring is presented to her in the middle of this fairytale location. The sun was shining and the fountains were spraying as if to celebrate this amazing moment.

Once she said an emotional and excited “I do”, these two were all smiles. The moments after the proposal are my favorite when there is a mix of excitement, surprise, and love all mixed together in one. These feelings were tangible and contagious. You could really feel the love in the air. So many hugs and kisses! It was as if you could feel all the shared experiences that brought this couple to this moment and all the wonderful life moments ahead of them. What a precious moment a marriage proposal is and as a Philadelphia proposal photographer, I am always honored to be asked to take photos of these joy-filled surprises.

Longwood Gardens Newly Engaged Couple

We were able to explore the expansive Longwood Gardens and take many couples’ photos in various locations around the grounds. Longwood is big, and it’s impossible to go to all the different locations, but we were able to stop at many of my favorite places, including the Main Fountain Garden, the Topiary Garden, the Pumphouse Plaza, the Flower Garden Walk and Compartment Gardens and the Idea Gardens. Here is a map of Longwood Gardens so you can plan your visit or photo session. I do encourage you to visit in person before getting down on one knee so you can get a real sense of the surroundings and pick the best spot for your proposal.

Tips for planning your Longwood Gardens Proposal

I want to share a few helpful tips for planning your Longwood Gardens Proposal. Plan ahead is my first tip; the sooner, the better to secure the photography permit for the day and time you are looking for. There are only a limited number of photo permits available, and Longwood Gardens is a very sought-after location. There are three time slots available each day: 10:30 am, 12:30 pm, and 2:30 pm and only one permit is currently available for each timeslot. It may be a good idea to consider a weekday instead of a weekend. Weekends can be extremely busy and can tend to be crowded. Choosing a weekday for your marriage proposal surprise at Longwood may feel more relaxing and special if it works for your schedule. It can also be helpful to think about the time of day for your proposal. Choosing the morning or evening will allow the most flattering light for photos. You are not allowed to take photos in the greenhouse, and all photos must be taken outside. This is important to consider as there are very limited areas for photos if it were to rain. Definitely check out the Longwood Gardens Photography Policy so that you have all the information you need. They do have specific rules and guidelines for photography.

Summer Garden Proposal

Longwood Gardens has amazing manicured botanical gardens with planting that change seasonally. Summer is a beautiful time to be in the garden you will see a lot of flowers in bloom and so many vibrant colors all around. Each section of the garden has its own distinct feel which makes it an amazing location for an engagement session. Everywhere you turn, there is an awe-inspiring scene that seems to beckon you. I love these photos with the flowers reaching above this couple’s waste – they are surrounded by the blossoms.
