This historic wedding venue in Delaware is a part of the Titon Mansion.
“I chose the University and Whist Club as my venue because of its charm. It reminds me of a quaint English or Scottish castle. It has a worldly romantic feel to it. I also chose it because it offered a more inclusive package and planning. The event coordinator Margaret Riley is wonderful.”
This University and Whist Club is impressive and inviting. There are lovely spaces for getting ready, a large ballroom and a separate area for mixing and mingling during cocktail hour.
The couple did their first look in front of the venue and then continued right into their wedding portraits.
“Alan proposed almost a year after we had been dating. After working 12 hours at the hospital, I came home to find Alan and my mother standing in the kitchen with big suspicious smiles on their faces. I didn’t think anything of it and went upstairs to remove my uniform and shower. But, before I could get my uniform fully off, I turned around and there was Alan, on bended knee with a ring. I stood in the bedroom half-dressed in my uniform top and happily said YES! It was PERFECT and beautiful! Apparently, the reason for the suspicious smiles was that Alan had a long conversation with my mother while I was at work and asked for her blessing to marry me.”
That sounds like a lovely proposal!
Just before the ceremony started we were able to take photos of the bridesmaids and groomsmen as well as the family. Then we headed inside for their sweet exchange of rings and vows.
Their wedding ceremony was supposed to be outside on the venue grounds but was moved inside due to the rain. Their indoor ceremony space offered a dry and cozy room for the couple to exchange their wedding vows as the guests laughed, teared up and cheered them on.
“The theme of our wedding was “Royally Romantic: An international love affair”. Our color palettes were navy blue, copper/ burnt orange, gold, and champagne. My husband is originally from northern England, was in the British Royal Navy, then migrated to Australia, and is now active in the Royal Australian Navy. I am originally from Ghana, West Africa, and came to the United States at the age of 8 and grew up in Bronx New York. In planning the wedding, it was very important to incorporate aspects of our cultural backgrounds. We have guests coming from Australia, U.K, Scotland, the Cayman Islands, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina, and Delaware.”
This couple did an amazing job of incorporating and celebrating their families, cultures, and countries on their wedding day.
This talented and creative bride hand-crafted her wedding decor! Pretty impressive right?! She really went all out and put a lot of time, energy, and dedication into bringing to life her vision. From the centerpieces to the sweetheart table, from the seating cards to the photobooth props she seemed to think of everything.
Once the bride and groom were announced into the reception room, it was time to start the party! There were wonderful speeches, toasts to the couple, parent dances, and lots of dancing to celebrate together.
