This couple chose to come to the beautiful Nemours Estate in Wilmington, Delaware, for the wedding photos, and what a great choice! The grounds are perfect for wedding photos with their expansive lawns, manicured landscape, and grand buildings. There is a regalness about the estate that is a match for wedding photos.
This spot was particularly appealing because of the fountain and purple flowers. The circular path was lined with an abundance of blooms, and it seemed like a lovely location for this couple’s Nemours Estate Wedding Photos.
Nemours Estate is located at 1600 Rockland Rd, Wilmington, Delaware 19803. It is less than an hour from Philadelphia, which makes it convenient if you are coming from this area. When I first arrived, I got a little confused because the GPS led me into a hospital complex, and I thought I was in the wrong place. After reading the signs and I quickly realised I was in fact in the right place and that this 200-acre country estate with jardin à la française formal gardens and a French neoclassical mansion is within the Nemours Children’s Health complex. Once I read the history, it all made sense and I learned that Alfred duPont instructed that his wealth be used to aid disabling childhood conditions. So when the driving directions tell you to turn into the Nemours Children’s Hospital, you are in the right place!
The good news is you are allowed to take photos on the grounds, but there are specific steps and rules to follow. To take professional photos at Nemours Estate, you do need to get permission in advance. You must submit your request at least 3 weeks in advance to the estate directly. Once you get written approval from the Estate, there is no extra charge for photography beyond the entrance fee(which is currently $23 for each adult), and must be paid for each person entering the gardens, including the photographer. There are some restrictions on where you can take photos. For example, you can only take photos outside on the grounds and not inside the Mansion or other buildings. You are able to schedule a time slot between 10 AM and 2 PM. There are other rules, including no drones, and the only equipment a photographer can bring is a camera and a tripod.
Before planning your Nemours Estate wedding photos, always check with the Estate directly for the most up-to-date information and the full list of rules, policies, procedures, and regulations.
The stunning formal Gardens are unlike any in the area. Inspired by the gardens of the Palace of Versailles, these classical gardens have much intentional design, pleasing symmetry, and impressive structure. The leading lines of the mazes and the grandeur of the columns and steps make it an appealing place for wedding photos in DE. I love the stylized landscape and the geometric patterns. The carefully trimmed hedges and the beautiful florals make you want to take your time and soak it all in. The precision and elegance of the landscaping align with the couple’s formal wear and the joyous occasion.
This may be one of the most popular views in the garden. The terrace lawn is spectacular, and you feel like you are transported somewhere magical. This Delaware garden has wonderful scenes for wedding photos.
I love the view from the top of the steps. This location was one of the first that we came to after entering the estate, and we knew we had to stop and get a few photos here before moving on. On one side, you have the backdrop of the columns, and on the other side, you can see an expansive stretch of the garden leading all the way to the Mansion. At Nemours Estate, it seems like each location has so many pretty angels and and you would really spend hours in just one of the locations. I had to keep checking the time and making sure we were are able to get to their favorite places that the couple had scouted out.
If you like Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, PA for photos, you may also like Nemours Estate in DE. Longwood Gardens is absolutely stunning and a very popular location for engagements and proposal photos. Since they allow a limited number of photo sessions daily, Nemours Estate could be an alternative photo location to consider if you like the look of formal manicured gardens.
This couple booked me to photograph a one-hour formal photo session on a weekday. This is something to consider if you want beautiful wedding photos to commemorate this time but don’t necessarily want to hire a professional photographer for your entire wedding day. I would love to chat with you about the possibility of doing a weekday portrait session for you.
